Madsen provided assistance to a major power producer in improving the shaft voltage and current monitoring system for their three steam-driven turbine generators. Boasting a combined generation capacity of 1266MW across the three turbines, the customer required a highly accurate and precise system. Madsen selected the appropriate system and recommended supplementary protective modules. Madsen oversaw the system’s final design, drawings, and installation, ensuring seamless execution.
Today, all three generators benefit from comprehensive monitoring, including:
- Partial voltage discharge (monitoring degradation of the winding insulation)
- Rotor flux monitoring (monitoring degradation of the winding insulation)
- Shaft voltage & current monitoring (protecting the generator and turbine from shaft voltage induced damage)
