Electric Governor Control Systems

At Madsen Controls, we carry Woodward electronic governors for turbines. As a Woodward Authorized Independent Service Facility, we are able to provide repairs and service for electronic governors. As a Woodward RTR (Recognized Turbine Retrofitter), we are able to service in our shop or on site, as well as provide assistance during the commissioning stages of a rebuild.

PROACT ISC Integrated Speed Control

ProAct™ ISC combines the proven ProAct electric actuator with integrated speed control software to control the speed of diesel and gaseous fuel engines. ProAct ISC is a microprocessor-based speed control incorporated into an actuator, creating a single integrated actuator/speed control. This eliminates the need for an additional driver box and speed control box.

ProAct ISC can also be configured as a position control only device for basic actuator applications, accepting 4–20 mA, 0–5V, -3V to +3V, or CAN position command signals.

The ProAct ISC control uses state-of-the-art speed sensing and control algorithms. It also performs comprehensive diagnostics for easy troubleshooting. The ProAct ISC is configured and tuned using the ProAct ISC Service Tool.

The modular bi-directional actuator design easily attaches to fuel pumps, fuel valves, or throttle bodies.

Product Features
  • Extremely fast, bi-directional electric actuator, electronically positioned in both directions
  • All-electric actuator requires no drive or hydraulic supply
  • Integral driver compatible of recip engine speed control or positioning tasks 75° (±2°) rotary output allows direct coupling to butterfly, eliminating linkage
  • Four actuator sizes to fit broad range of applications
  • Configurable parameters to tailor to varied applications
  • Advanced Diagnostics
  • Product Specification 03326 (Revision C, 4/2009)

EPG Electronically Powered Governor System

Electrically powered governor (EPG) systems are designed for precise speed control of diesel, gas, gasoline engines, and gas turbines. They are especially suited to prime movers without a mechanical drive or hydraulic oil supply for the governor and which have low-mass, low-friction fuel linkages.

The 512/524 and 1712/1724 EPGs are three-component governing systems for 12 or 24 Vdc operation. All EPG systems include an actuator, an electronic speed control, and magnetic pickup.

Product Features
  • No mechanical drive or hydraulic supply required
  • Up to 2.3 J (1.7 ft-lb) available work
  • Accepts load sharing accessories
  • 12- and 24-volt operation
  • Single phase droop or isochronous control
  • Switch-selected dual dynamics
  • Start-fuel limit for smoke control
  • EU Directive Compliant

L-Series Integrated Engine Speed Control

The Woodward L-Series Integrated Engine Control System is the first engine speed control to deliver so much in a package this compact. It can also deliver substantial savings in production and field support. Since the L-Series Control System is microprocessor-based, it can easily be programmed to match the operating parameters of every engine you produce. The L-Series offers speed control with software-selectable speed setpoints, dynamics, fuel limiting, and start/stop behavior. All it takes is a PC and a simple plug-in download on your production line.

Product Features
  • Low-cost engine control
  • Fully integrated actuator and speed control
  • Small package-greater design flexibility
  • Microprocessor-based
  • Easy setup and tuning using PC-based Service Tool
  • Discrete output driver for fault indication
  • Voltage output for throttle position indication
  • Configurable I/O

F-Series ITB – Integrated Actuator and Throttle Body

The F-Series ITB is designed to throttle air or air/fuel mixtures for gaseous engines in industrial and on-highway service. This system is designed for direct replacement of traditional throttle valves, and requires no linkage between valve and actuator. The ITB contains a return spring to fully comply with US DOT 571.124 specifications. The three sizes are designed to cover a wide range of engines, and should be selected using the sizing procedure described in this specification.

Product Features
  • No linkage or couplings
  • Requires no hydraulics, pneumatics, or gear train
  • Long lasting, small size, easy to install throttle option
  • Includes return spring to fully comply with US DOT 571.124 specs
  • Versatile 12 or 24 Vdc operation
  • CAN communication (FSTP Only)
  • Advanced diagnostics

2301E Digital Load Sharing and Speed Control

Woodward’s 2301E provides load sharing and speed control of generators being driven by diesel or gaseous engines. With built-in flexible configuration software, application variations can now be selected using an external computer (PC). Changing the application to accommodate engine speed range, gear teeth, and selection of forward or reverse acting is simply a matter of software setup. The 2301E controller is backward compatible with existing 2301D products.

Product Features
  • Engine/generator or pump applications
  • Multiple dynamics
  • Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) limiter
  • Torque limiter
  • Low-speed-sensing functionality
  • Remote speed & load reference

Dyna 2000 & 2500

DYNA 2000 and DYNA 2500 linear actuators provide precise positioning with a minimal number of moving parts. Many of the moving parts normally associated with electric actuators are eliminated, prolonging the mean time between failure.

These DYNA actuators are suitable for installation on diesel, gasoline, or natural gas engines with fuel system force requirements of less than 13 pounds (58 N) of force. When paired with a Woodward controller, precise isochronous speed control of 5 to 30 HP engines (DYNA 2000) and 5 to 60 HP engines (DYNA 2500) is achieved.

Product Features
  • All electric
  • Fast response
  • Small & compact
  • Two moving parts
  • Spring return to minimum fuel
  • Mounts in any position
  • Precise repeatability
  • Meets INR & EMP for moderate tactical battlefield environment
